Michael Burgess
Chief People Officer
Michael was appointed Chief People Officer in 2019 and is a member of the executive committee.
He has responsibility for ensuring people policies and practices are aligned to Amey’s purpose, priorities and values; to bring out the best in people and to look after each other. Under his leadership, Amey has been recognised for its progressive people policies such as an HR Excellence Award for the equality, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) Strategy. Also, Amey currently holds Investors in People double gold accreditation, placing it among a small minority of highly rated organisations.
Prior to joining Amey in 2013, Michael held several senior positions within the public and private sector organisations and was an HR Director for over 10 years. He has also been integral to numerous large-scale projects, acquisitions and integrations.
Michael is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and holds an MBA in Business Administration from Brunel University. He is also a trained executive coach (Ashridge Hult International Business School); a workplace mediator (ACAS); and a mentor (Soldiers’, Sailors’, and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA)).
