Tunnel control system for Thames Tideway
London’s sewer system was built for a population less than half its current size. As a result, millions of tonnes of raw sewage spills into the River Thames each year. Thames Tideway is building a 25km super sewer to clean up the Thames.

OVERVIEW
Our role is to design, build and supervise the installation of a system which controls operation of the Tideway Tunnel, the Lee Tunnel and Beckton Sewage Works. Together with setting up a new control centre for this network. The challenge has been to design a control system to link the old sewage systems with the recently completed Lee Tunnel and the treatment works at Beckton. The system also has to prevent flooding of London and uses the Tideway Tunnel as a short-term overflow facility.
