Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Accountant to join our Group Highways Finance Team on a permanent basis in Sheffield. This role offers Hybrid working.
As the Trainee Accountant, you will be tasked to provide support to the finance function with specific focus on P&L robustness and supporting projects where applicable.
The standard hours of work arebased on 37.5 hours, Monday – Friday.

You will be responsible for:
- Communicate with contract-based staff to resolve queries as they arise.
- Produce and develop management reporting, understanding trends and providing meaningful information
- Provide assistance and support to commercial management through expert data organisation skills utilising pivot tables, lookup formulas, sumifs formulas, data sort and file links
- Build effective relationships with functional areas and site-based teams
- Ensure the integrity of financial transaction information held within SAP.

- Utilise data manipulation and excel skills to assist in the preparation of month end management accounts
- Assist with the production of the monthly management accounts
- Assist with the production of the monthly site profit and loss accounts by ensuring the robustness of cost allocations
- Prepare and post month end journals including WIP, Revenue, provisions, accruals and prepayments
- Ensure contract cost are controlled with robust procedures in place
- Pro-actively address issues and anomalies with finance, commercial and operations colleagues, explaining financial terminology to those with non-finance backgrounds.
- Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed and key variances are understood and resolved, including appropriate audit trail and support
- Raise and issue client invoices, utilising the client AFP data. Including chasing of cash receipts and provide updates to the senior management and treasury teams.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- Ideally you will hold a Degree within Finance or numerical subject
- Excellent IT Skills including knowledge of Excel and SAP
- Ability to achieve tight deadlines with a good level quality and understanding.
- Ability to work with numbers comfortably and be numerate
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills as the role involves interacting with internal and external clients
- Good organisation skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload
- High level of attention to detail
